Dear Boys and Girls, In my last post I argued that it was possible to eat clean while on a shoe-string budget. If you haven’t read it, go back and read it, You really can. There is really no excuse. But, after I wrote it, I felt disturbed that I had left out Shakeology from my suggested meal plan, especially given the fact that many of the foods we eat today (particularly our chicken/fish/meat) are of such poor quality. It makes sense that Shakeology would make up for some of the nutrient deficient foods we consume as a society. But, the question remains: Can you afford it? If I left it out of my meal plan, then somewhere in my mind I was saying, “No, there is little room for it in a tight budget.” However, somehow that just didn’t jive with me. Let’s do the math together and you…Details
Dear Boys and Girls, Is it possible to eat clean when on a very tight budget? People think it’s not, but I’ve been saying for years that it is. It’s time to prove it. My plan (upon the suggestion of a friend) is to post three meal plans: one for folks looking to lose weight/eat clean on a shoe-string budget, one for those with a bit elasticity in their wallets, and the third, for those who are looking for optimum health without having to worry about cost. Ideally we would all be able to eat farm-raised, chemical free poultry/beef. After watching the documentary Food Inc., I’m sorry to say that when it comes to eating chicken and beef, folks on a tight budget really do get the short end of the stick. Organic, farm-raised chicken or beef can cost around $8 to $9 a pound. For many, that’s just outside…Details
Dear Boys and Girls,
I just wanted to share a new 30 Day Shakeology Recipe Calendar that Beachbody released. You can print it and post it on your fridge. Here it is:
Mmm. Okay, I just looked over the chocolate recipes again and I’m happy to report that they are low-cal and yummy!
Okay, that banana might have a lot of calories! It’s giant!
But, seriously, remember that Shakeology comes with a Bottom of the Bag Guarantee: if you decide after 30-Days that Shakeology just isn’t doing it for you, you can return it for a full refund.
If you order Shakeology, be sure to get it on autoship so you get FREE SHIPPING, plus 2 free workouts, a shaker cup, and recipe cards. You can cancel your monthly shipments at any point without penalty to you.
Happy Shakeologizing! Enjoy!

Dear Boys and Girls, I have said this many times before: I became a coach because I simply wanted to help people; I enjoyed helping others with their meal plans; being a motivator. I never intended to make a dime. Today, I have nearly quadrupled the income I make as a university professor and without hesitation, I can say that I expect that figure to double by the end of next year. My love of fitness, my knowledge, my confidence, and my desire to help others change their lives has only grown with time. The desire to help others has expanded to include both the physical and financial realms. I am living my dream. If someone would have told me when I became a coach three years ago that I’d be reading (BY CHOICE ) a book on taxes on this lazy Sunday morning, I would have insisted that…Details
Dear Boys and Girls, I feel as if I began hitting the breaks on my fast moving train about a month ago and only now is that train starting to slow down to a comfortable choochoo. Boy, I really do have a talent at packing it all in! Despite my insistence a short while ago that I can’t do it all, I found myself doing almost daily webinars for my team and saying yes to just about everything. The thing is: I want to help! I like challenges! With that comes saying yes, but also learning how to say no. Ahh, the art of being human and the perpetual journey of striking a balance. Today is the first evening in a while, I think, where I feel like, YES, I can fully take a break right now without feeling that I have a million things to do. The world…Details
Dear Boys and Girls, It’s Saturday morning, post Friday evening splurge meal. I always enjoy the actual experience of having my once a week “cheat-meal,” even though I usually feel bloated, thirsty, and a bit yucky the day after. But since I eat super duper clean all week long, by the seventh day I am ready for something naughty. So: Should You Have a Splurge Meal? Cheat Meal? Whatever you call it, you know what I mean. If you’ve eaten clean all week long, then YES! Absolutely! The fact is that if you follow a very clean diet all the time, and I mean clean, your body gets used to the same caloric intake. This lowers your metabolism or your body’s ability to burn calories. One way to keep your metabolism up is by having a ONCE WEEKLY CHEAT MEAL. The other way is caloric cycling. Now, remember, I am…Details
Dear Boys and Girls, It’s Sunday morning. I’m at my mom’s place in New York City, the day after the BeachBody Game Plan. It was amazing to be back in my old stomping ground, my home sweet home, amongst 200 or so attendees. It was….I’m searching for my words….odd, strange, flattering, I really don’t know the word, to feel the recognition and respect that I felt I was offered by so many of my fellow Beachbody coaches this past weekend. Ooh, why did I just get emotional? I admit I’m still processing the experience. Just know that I write this post with humility. When I started back in 2007, I never expected to become a Top Coach, one of the leaders in the Beachbody community. Like so many others, I stumbled upon P90X one day, by chance. For some, it was an infomercial, for me it was walking down…Details
Dear Boys and Girls, I woke up this morning and realized: I’ve been blogging more and more about my life experience rather than my food and exercise. It’s not an apology. In so many ways it’s a victory. Eating super clean and exercising have become a habit, just like brushing my teeth. No matter how busy life gets, what obstacles I face that week, I am committed to bringing it. Actually, one of the things that stresses me out is when unexpected obstacles get in my way of my planned workouts or scheduled meals. Last night, I found myself having to find a FedEx or UPS office during my cardio hour. The giant package had to be sent and I had my cardio to do. As I was standing in line looking all frazzled, the man behind me asks, “Have you met Tony Horton?” I was like, “huh?” He…Details
My Dear Coachees and NYC area Peeps! As I looked over my NYC contact list, I noticed that I know many of you personally because I’m from NYC, and many of you, I only know online because I coach you. Either way, I wanted to let you know that BEACHBODY is coming to NYC for the FIRST TIME ever this Friday. … I’ll be straight up with you, New York Style! On Friday, there will be a business opportunity meeting. In case you didn’t know, I finished my PhD at NYU and stumbled upon BeachBody back in June 2007 when I was feeling horrible in my own skin. I got great results with Slim in 6 after just six weeks, and decided to become a coach, not because of the money, but because I was LOVING helping people on the message boards. Fast forward 3 years and I am…Details
Dear Boys and Girls, When I’m silent it’s often because I’m trying to figure stuff out and that stuff is usually balance. Since July I’ve been to Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Washington D.C., San Diego, and of course, Dallas. Oh, and South America. Somehow, I am not sure how, I managed to follow my diet and training to the T, hold training calls for my team almost daily, and compete in a bikini category competition. Um, having listed all that, no wonder some folks think I can do it all. Don’t I always say it? Something has got to give! It’s impossible to do it all, so I didn’t. I couldn’t. I haven’t been sending out my weekly check-ins to my customers like I said I would; I haven’t been blogging three times a week like I said I would; and I haven’t been the speediest at responding to emails…Details
