“My ‘before’ picture is the last weekend of my life before I decided it was time to start working out and eating better. So many factors led me to that point in my life of being unhappy, unhealthy, and fat. I was 172 pounds and a size 14/16. I ‘carried it well’, I was ‘tall enough to pull it off’, but I hated me. I had grown to hate me through an abusive marriage and didn’t regain my self-esteem after leaving the situation. I didn’t play with my daughter. I didn’t do well at work. The thought of climbing stairs scared me. After that weekend though, Memorial Day weekend in 2008, I finally decided enough was enough, time to stop feeling sorry for myself, and MAKE THE CHANGE! Today I am a lean 140 pounds and size 6.
From 2008 to 2010, I struggled in the gym. I had lost 30 pounds, but I didn’t keep it off. My diet was still less than ideal, eating way too many fat and sugary foods, thinking I’d just work it off the next day. A friend came into my life, she graciously offered me her P90X, a kindness that subsequently changed my life! I failed, miserably, at my first attempts at following a dedicated P90X routine. It was not until some tough love in March 2011 that I started to reach out to Barbie, first for Shakeology samples, then became a coach following Barbie’s Clean Eating Challenge, and then to commit to P90X Lean in April 2011. Since completing P90X Lean, I did another round of P90X Classic, and experimented with TurboFire, Brazil Butt Lift, and Ten Minute Trainer. In December 2011, I was introduced to CrossFit, and fell in love immediately with the heavy lifting and fast-paced workouts. I still integrate P90X and P90X2 on my alternate days for the cardio I need to reach my goal of entering an NPC Bikini Competition in October 2012.
When my daughter was 1-year-old, I would never have imagined having enough energy to keep up with her. I was tired all the time! Now, I love picking her up from school, after working all day, putting her on her bicycle and running with her to the park 15 minutes away. Not only do I have enough energy for that but I also still have enough energy to run around the playground playing games with my daughter and running back home. By then, she’s usually tired out and I have to help push her along. Creating fun memories with my daughter, THAT is the REAL reward for being healthy and fit!!
You, Barbie, have been an inspiration, a solid foundation to lean on when going through hard times, and a great leader! Without you, I don’t know how long I would have given up on myself after my failed endeavor with the gym. I don’t know how many times I would have fallen off the wagon without your support or how long I would have stayed off. Always being able to reach out to you via email, text, and Facebook have kept me on track for accomplishing my goals and creating new ones each time an old one has been met. Being involved with you and Beachbody is where everything clicked for me and I just keep growing, learning, and improving!”
